The Hungarian writer has received the Nobel Prize in Literary Arts.

The Magyar novelist was honored "for his powerful and prophetic collection that, amidst end-times dread, asserts the might of art."

The author has authored 5 works of fiction and garnered numerous additional literary prizes, including the 2015's International Booker Award, and the 2013's top translated work honor in Fiction for his initial book "Satantango", a avant-garde creation about the end of the globe.

Krasznahorkai is the second Hungarian author to receive the honor after the former Imre Kertesz, who received in 2002.

Born in 1954, the author obtained fame in 1985 when he published "Satantango", which he transformed for the big screen in 1994.

The b&w drama, by Hungarian cinematographer Bela Tarr, is renowned for its 7-hour duration.

The author's additional works consist of:

  • Melancholy of Resistance (1989)
  • War & War (1999)
  • Seiobo Below (2008)

The award body characterized Krasznahorkai as "a exceptional grand author in the European tradition that extends through Franz Kafka to Thomas Bernhard, and is marked by absurdist themes and bizarre overindulgence."

The author's 2021 work Herscht 07769 has been called as a great contemporary German story, owing to its exactness in depicting the country's societal upheaval prior to the pandemic.

It is a portrayal of a contemporary village in Thüringen, Deutschland, afflicted by societal anarchy, murder and incendiarism.

"Kind titan Florian Herscht is an orphan, raised by a radical who has trained him as a wall writing cleaner.

"His employer, a Johann Sebastian Bach enthusiast, is furious that someone is spraying wolf symbols across the memorials to the famed artist in their former GDR town."

One review remarked it as "accordingly dark from start to finish."

His most recent mock-heroic work, Zsömle Odavan, returns to the Hungarian setting.

The protagonist is 91-year-old Uncle Kada, who has a hidden claim to the royal seat but has made every effort to vanish from the planet.
