NFL Recap: Denver Edge Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
In a defensive struggle this weekend, the Broncos managed to secure a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.
Defensive Display Wins Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 total net yards during the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
Record Difficulties for Jets Offense
Despite their dismal performance, the Jets still had possession with a opportunity to drive for a possible victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn commented following the game.
