Patriots Equal Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie Henderson has scored five touchdowns during the current campaign
The New England Patriots equaled their longest winning run since the Tom Brady era as they defeated AFC East opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three scores as the New England squad notched an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Tom Brady's final season with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory bolsters the Patriots lead at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had taken the lead at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields running in a five-yard touchdown to conclude the New York's opening drive
But the home team responded in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third period to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback commented on Henderson. "He desires to be great."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the triumph
