The DCU Series Season 2 Finale to Resolve Significant Fan Complaint, James Gunn Announces
Although the reception for Peacemaker season 2 has been largely positive, with viewers and reviewers applauding the acting and plot—even if the big twist in the seventh installment wasn't exactly a shock—a particular criticism has only grown stronger as the season continues: dwindling episode runtimes.
Over the past few episodes, viewers have expressed disappointment over the noticeably shorter episode lengths this season, and indeed, the episodes have been getting shorter and shorter. The seventh episode, called “Like a Keith in the Night,” lasted only 28 minutes (not counting the recap, title sequence, and closing credits), making it the shortest episode so far.
Fans will be pleased to know next week's episode is over 57 minutes long.
Peacemaker showrunner and DCU boss Gunn wrote on Threads, responding to a viewer's concern.
Despite this news, it remains unclear exactly how much of the runtime will be actual new footage, free from opening and ending sequences, or recaps of previous events. However, even if the finale includes all the previously mentioned non-essential content, that still leaves roughly three-quarters of an hour for the concluding episode, which is a big upgrade following the previous installment.
Gunn previously teased that the last episode would not only wrap up Peacemaker but also give a hint towards the direction the broader DC Universe as a whole will be heading and serve as a prequel of sorts for the next Superman movie. Considering the cameo of Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor from episode 6, fans expect a juicy cameo to cap off the show.
Peacemaker's finale, episode 8, is titled "The Full Nelson," and audiences must wait to find out if fans' suspicions are proven correct.
